Etymology of ALEXIN
The term "alexin" was coined by the German scientist Hans Buchner in 1895. It is derived from the Greek word "alexo", which means "to ward off" or "to protect". Buchner used the word to describe a substance present in blood serum that had protective properties against bacteria. Later, this substance was identified as a group of proteins known as complement proteins.
